FAQs
What time should I arrive?
Please arrive 5 minutes before your session starts to give you time to change.
What should I wear?
We recommend wearing comfortable swimwear. We do require users to be clothed in the sauna.
What should I bring?
We recommend bringing:
Two towels – one to sit on in the sauna and one for drying off afterwards.
A non-metallic water bottle – drinking water is available on-site for refills.
Suitable footwear – as the sauna is outdoors, pool slides, Crocs, or similar are ideal for moving around comfortably.
How long do I sauna and cold plunge for?
Typical sauna duration: 10–15 minutes per round.
How many rounds: 2 to 3 is common, but there’s no limit.
Total sauna time: 20–45 minutes, depending on your experience and tolerance. Again, no limit.
Begin with 1 or 2 rounds if you’re new, then gradually increase over time.
Typical cold plunge duration: 30 seconds to 3 minutes.
Beginners: Start with 30–60 seconds.
Experienced users: Up to 2–3 minutes.
Water temp: Ideally between 5–15°C (41–59°F).
Always listen to your body. Tingling, shivering, or numbness is a sign to get out. Don’t push beyond what feels safe in both sauna and cold plunge.
For best results we recommend cycling between sauna and cold plunge. End on cold if you want a more energised finish; end on heat for a more relaxed, sleepy feel.
Is there an age limit?
No under 16s in the sauna or cold plunge, under 18s to be accompanied by an adult.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel your sauna session this must be done within 48 hours of your appointment to allow for refunding and the session to be re-advertised.
If you wish to reschedule your session please contact us and we will be happy to do so.
This policy applies to communal and private sessions only (not event hire). Please contact us directly for event cancellations.
Do you take walk-in appointments?
We prefer advance bookings online, this is because we are wood-fired and it takes time to heat the sauna. If you come and find us and there is space then you can join in but no guarantees.
Check our daily Instagram updates for on-the-day availability.
Do you have changing facilities?
We offer a back-to-nature experience with a minimalist pop-up tent changing room. This is an outdoor space so in the winter we recommend a nice warm coat for after your sauna.
Is there parking?
Thaxted has numerous free public carparks in the town centre, all just a few minutes walk from the sauna. Our nearest is located on Bardfield Road (next to the Fire Station) -
what3words - ///upholding.goose.targeted
There is strictly no car access to the site itself. The sauna must be approached on foot using the Public Footpaths that lead to the site.
Directions from the nearest public car park to the Sauna Paddock:
Exit left from the car park and immediately left again onto the Public Footpath, with Claypits Farmhouse on your right.
Walk past the farmhouse and round to the right, approximately 100 metres along the track. The Sauna Paddock will be on your right. Enter through the gate.
Are there toilets?
We do not currently have toilet facilities.
